Celebrate Learning with Special Olympics at Perspectives 2020

Learning is at the core of who we are. And when I say “we” I’m not just talking about my colleagues at Skillsoft or my personal circle. I am actually, literally talking about everyone.

Is that a big claim? I don’t think so. The constant search for information and the need for growth is what makes us human. In my experience, the people who find the most success are interested in pushing boundaries, and are innately curious, always asking why. Unfortunately, there are barriers to entry for continuous learning. For many people, cultural norms and lack of resources are some of the biggest obstacles on the path to growth.

It’s why I’m excited to announce that the organization I look to as a model for how to overcome these barriers — Special Olympics — will be joining us at Perspectives 2020. Special Olympics embodies the transformative impact of inclusive learning and leadership approaches; it is at the core of who they are and how they operate. They show us what is possible when everyone in an organization makes learning a priority, and a truly diverse workforce is empowered to take on leadership roles. For Special Olympics, this is done via their Unified Leadership approach, which is deployed throughout the organization with an emphasis on elevating diverse opinions, striving for full inclusion, and ensuring everyone is learning from each other.

At Skillsoft, we believe these principles are key to overcoming the obstacles that would keep an employee from reaching out to learn a new programming language or ask for leadership training. By creating a culture where everyone feels comfortable and empowered with the tools to upskill, leaders and learners alike can invest in their growth to create new opportunities and to feel more fulfilled at work.

It’s incredibly rewarding to help our customers tap into their very best asset: their people. And no matter the type of organization, whether a technology company or a nonprofit like Special Olympics, the first step is always connecting the learning mission to the business outcomes. When employees feel empowered to seek information and leaders understand how to connect people to the tools they require, remarkable personal and organizational achievements are possible.

I can’t wait for Special Olympics to share their stories with you at Perspectives 2020. I know you will be as inspired as I have been by their mission and by their leaders — of all abilities — who are creating a more inclusive world for learners everywhere..

Make sure to register to attend — we look forward to seeing you there.
